Senator Benigno Aquino IV has asked the Bureau of Immigration (BI) and the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) to explain why they kept 3 members of Team Rave – an e-sports team – from leaving for South Korea to train and join international competitions.

Team Rave's Mark "Cast" Pilar, Djardel "Chrissy" Mampusti, and Ryo "ryOyr" Hasegawa were barred from flying to Seoul due to an alleged lack of proper travel documents.

Aquino, however, pointed out that the reason given by the immigration and overseas employment agencies were unusual.

"They have traveled several times to South Korea using the same documents they presented in the past without any hitch. Suddenly, they were barred from leaving without any valid reason," he said in a statement Monday, April 6.

"Worse, the offloading happened during a crucial time where they were scheduled to train for several big international competitions," the senator said.

According to Aquino, the offloading of Team Rave also kept them from additional chances to join further tournaments in Bucharest.

Team Rave was earlier in the news for earning 6th place in the DOTA 2 Asian Championships, taking home $150,000 for their hard work.

Senator Aquino remined the agencies of government's role in fostering athletes: "Government should be able to provide an environment where our athletes, online or offline, will be able to hone their skills, compete in world class competitions, and give honor and pride to our country."

Aquino, whose office had helped Team Rave in the past, added: "We will continue helping them in any way we can because we believe in their potential in bringing honor to our country."

Mich only said she had already laid all the issues and intrigues that continue to make waves online to the lord.

On the other hand, Maricar Sebastian who is still grieving for the lost of her son is also not giving her statement regarding the issue, but like what she said during her interview in StarTalk, she will release it in due time.

EMOGOLDEX Pyramiding 'SCAM'

Emgoldex banned in US, 4 other countries.

MANILA - People who illegally sell securities or financial products without registration in the Philippines face a P5-million fine and a 21-year prison term, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) warned Tuesday.

This, amid the furor regarding the Emgoldex pyramiding scheme that promises to make anyone rich.

Emgoldex recruiters claim that an investment of P1,000 will yield P5,000 to P10,000, while an investment of P35,000 can turn into P180,000 to P360,000.

Investors are also urged to recruit at least two more people into the scheme.

The SEC said this is clearly a pyramiding scheme that can collapse at any time.

Emgoldex is also not a registered corporation or partnership in the Philippines, and is not legally allowed to collect investments from the public.

"Ito po sa pyramiding kung susuriin investment style, nire-require mag-recruit tapos may bonus," said SEC spokesman Atty. Gerard Lukban. "Kung sa pag-recruit ang payout kinukuha sa baba pag nag-collapse mawawalan ng kita."

Lukban said the law requires any business to register in the Philippines if it will operate here.

"Kaya po natin pinare-rehistro ang mga kumpanya para makita natin, unang una, sino mga tao behind them," he explained. "Kung hindi po natin makita sa database, medyo mahihirapan po tayong habulin."

The National Bureau of Investigation, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, and the Department of Trade and Industry are also investigating Emgoldex's pyramid scheme.

A cease and desist order had been imposed on Emgoldex in Massachusetts, US, and it has been banned in Finland, Colombia, Estonia, and Panama.

People who try to recruit "investors" in Emgoldex claim that the company is registered in Europe, but a complaint filed by Massachusetts Secretary of State William F. Galvin showed that it is registered in the Seychelles, an island nation off Africa.

ABS-CBN News called Emgoldex's alleged administrative office in the Seychelles to get its side but no one wanted to talk.

Emails sent to addresses on its website have also yet to get replies.

In the last 20 years, people have lost more than P80 billion to investment scams in the country.

These scams include Bancap in 1994 (P900 million); Multitel (P25 billion) and Mateo Management Group in 2002 (P4.3 billion); Tibayan Group in 2003 (P2 billion); Francswiss (P1 billion); Performance Investment Products Corp ($250 million) in 2007; and Legacy Group (P30 billion) and Royal Manchester Five Trading Corp. More Filipinos are being infected with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) through paid sex.

Based on the Department of Health (DOH)’s Philippine HIV and AIDS Registry’s January 2015 report, 91 individuals recently acquired HIV after engaging in “transactional sex.”

The report indicated that 50 individuals or 55 percent of the new cases paid for sex, while 33 individuals or 36 percent accepted payment for sex. The remaining eight individuals or nine percent engaged in both.

Of the total number, 83 people or 91 percent of the cases were males and eight were females.

Since DOH began the official evaluation of people who engaged in transactional sex in 2012 up to present, there have been 1,701 recorded cases of HIV. About 55 percent acquired HIV after engaging in paid sex, while 30 percent accepted payment for sex. The remaining 15 percent both paid and accepted payment for sex.

A total of 1,617 or 95 percent of HIV cases among people who engage in transactional sex are males, while the remaining are females.

The United Nations Program on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) attributed low condom use as one of the main reasons for the “fast and furious” rise of HIV cases in the country.

For this reason, people living with HIV (PLHIV) renewed calls for the immediate adoption of sex education in schools to help combat the spread of HIV through safe sexual practices. It is only through proper sex education that people learn how to practice safe sex and avoid acquiring HIV.

“What we have to do is to educate people properly. It has to start earlier. When it comes to health, education is very shallow. We don’t talk about consequences of sex in schools,” PLHIV advocate and writer Wanggo Gallaga said.

Boxing hero Manny Pacquiao is top tax-payer in Philippines.

Boxing hero Manny Pacquiao, who faces his biggest fight against unbeaten American Floyd Mayweather, already holds top spot as the number one taxpayer in the Philippines, government records showed Saturday.

A list of top individual tax-payers for 2013, posted on the Bureau of Internal Revenue website, put the boxer-turned-congressman at number one with 163.84 million pesos ($3.72 million) in taxes paid.

This was about 64 percent higher than the second-highest taxpayer.

Internal revenue chief Kim Henares confirmed that Pacquiao topped the list but stressed that he still had a case pending over alleged non-payment of taxes earlier.

Although hailed as a national hero for his boxing feats, Pacquiao has run afoul of tax officials before and is embroiled in a dispute with the revenue bureau saying he owed at least 2.2 billion pesos in unpaid taxes for 2008 and 2009.

"It (the case) is still ongoing. No, he has not settled. Being a top tax-payer... does not mean he paid the correct taxes. The two (issues) are not synonymous," Henares said in a statement to AFP.

The boxer has previously insisted he paid the 2008 and 2009 taxes in the United States, so did not need to do so in the Philippines because the two countries have an agreement allowing their citizens to avoid double taxation.

The tax office alleges Pacquiao failed to provide documents proving his US payments and that he may still owe some money in the Philippines where there is a higher rate of taxation.

Pacquiao, 36, a champion in eight divisions, has parlayed his sports fame into a fortune in commercial endorsements, a showbiz career and even election to Congress.

This earned him a spot in Forbes magazine's list as the 11th highest-paid athlete in 2014, although still behind his rival Mayweather who was number one on the list that year.

The two rivals for the crown of best boxer of their generation are due to meet in Las Vegas on May 2 in a match that is expected to shatter box office records.

Mayweather-Pacquiao revenue expected to reach $400M

Record-shattering revenue totals for Manny Pacquiao’s upcoming boxing showdown with unbeaten Floyd Mayweather could surpass $400 million, promoter Bob Arum told ESPN in a report Monday on the sports network’s website.

The welterweight title unification fight May 2 in Las Vegas will generate $74 million from just over 15,000 tickets at MGM Grand Garden Arena, Pacquiao promoter Arum told ESPN, flattening the old mark of just over $20 million for Mayweather’s 2013 fight with Saul “Canelo” Alvarez in the same venue.

Promoters first aimed for $40 million, then boosted the ticket prices from $1,000 to $1,500 at the low end and $5,000 to $7,500 for the best seats due to huge demand for the ducats, Arum said.

But organizers have now shuffled the number of seats in various price ranges and boosted top seats to $10,000 to raise the live gate total from $50 million to $74 million.

“It’s crazy, but it is what it is,” Arum told ESPN. “It’s amazing.”

And few if any seats will be available for public sale, with promoters, telecasters HBO and Showtime, the fighters and the host venue each taking a share of the tickets.

“We’ll probably have a handful of tickets that will go on sale to the public next week,” Arum said. “It’s mania.”

There will be only about 1,100 seats at $10,000, none of them for public sale, according to the report.

Boxing’s record for pay-per-view purchases is the 2.4 million buys from Mayweather’s 2007 split-decision victory over Oscar de la Hoya, but with Mayweather-Pacquiao having taken more than five years to come together with the planet’s top pound-for-pound fighters, expectations of 3 million pay-per-view buys at about $100 each could bring $300 million in sales for US, Puerto Rican and Canadian markets alone.

“We wouldn’t have gotten a fraction of these numbers if we made the fight five years ago,” Arum said. “It turned out that we’re doing the fight at the right time, I guess, not that we’re geniuses for waiting this long.”

Global rights are expected to ring up another $35 million, with a record $10 million already spent for rights in the Philippines, where Pacquiao is a Congressman as well as an iconic figure.

“Between the gate, the foreign television sales and the closed circuit, which we can’t even calculate yet, you’re looking at over $120 million. And that’s before one pay-per-view has been sold in the US,” Arum told ESPN.

Arum said Tecate beer, a long-time Pacquiao sponsor, won title sponsor rights with a $5.6 million bid, $400,000 more than rival Corona, a long-time backer of Mayweather.

“We’ve never see anything like that on a beer sponsor,” Arum said. “Both companies were after it. It’s a huge number.”

Mayweather’s camp receives 60 percent of the revenue with Pacquiao’s side taking home 40 percent.

Arum said the contract gives Pacquiao the choice of who sings his homeland’s national anthem before the bout while Mayweather decides who will sing “The Star Spangled Banner.”

Toni Gonzaga apologized to those offended by her hosting during the Binibining Pilipinas 2015 pageant on Sunday, but explained she was asked to “make the show fun and light.”

The ABS-CBN star was criticized on social media following her stint as a co-host in the Bb. Pilipinas 2015 coronation night. A number of netizens considered her hosting style as too “informal” and her jokes inappropriate.

Among those who criticized the ABS-CBN star's hosting style on social media was former beauty queen Nina Ricci Alagao and fashion designer Cary Santiago.

But during the press conference for the upcoming Star Cinema movie “You’re The Boss” on Tuesday, Toni said she didn’t mean to offend anyone and that she was instructed to “ease the tension, especially during the question and answer portion” of the pageant.

“Syempre po, doon muna sa mga hindi natuwa dahil hindi naibigan ang napanood nila noong Sunday, I’m humbly asking if I have offended or I have maligned or I have hurt any one of you,” she said.

Toni added, “But it was never my intention because prior to the show, I was instructed to make the show fun, light, and ease the tension—especially during the Q & A portion. So it was never my intention.”

“Again, it was instructed for me to host that way, to make it lively and fun.”

She also thanked her fans and supporters who defended her over the issue.

"I don't want to miss this opportunity to thank everyone, yung mga friends ko po from the press, my friends from the industry who have been saying a lot of good things, who have been defending me, nagsasalita ng good and kind words sa akin. Maraming, maraming salamat po. I really and truly appreciate that from the bottom of my heart,” Toni said.

POEA tells recruiters to have Facebook accounts

POEA: Licensed recruitment agencies deploying domestic workers required to have Facebook accounts.

Administrator Hans Leo J. Cacdac has issued Memorandum Circular No. 1, series of 2015, requiring recruitment agencies to have Facebook accounts, for the following purposes:
(1) Communication platform for deployed domestic workers;
(2) Dispute prevention;
(3) Endorsement of complaints; and
(4) Submission of reports to the POEA

Cacdac emphasized that the requirement to have FB accounts is imposed upon recruitment agencies deploying household service workers, and is not a requirement for HSWs to have FB accounts.

Cacdac reiterated the mandate of Labor Secretary Rosalinda Dimapilis - Baldoz to make licensed recruitment agencies responsible in ensuring that their deployed workers interests are amply protected, and that their well

- being and welfare are promoted pursuant to the POEA rules and regulations. Recruitment agencies were also mandated to submit reports on the status and condition of their deployed workers.

Cacdac enjoined recruitment and placement agencies to share their Facebook accounts to the POEA and their deployed HSWs.

The recruitment agency's Facebook account shall be required for POEA processing of documents of recruited household service workers.

The Memorandum Circular takes effect on 13 March 2015.

MANILA, Philippines - Tropical storm "Bavi" (international name) is weakening but is expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Tuesday afternoon.

The tropical storm will be named "Betty" once it enters the country this afternoon At 10:00 a.m., it was spotted 1,530 kilometers east of Casiguran, Aurora.

According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Atmospheric Service Administration (PAGASA), the typhoon is expected to weaken into a tropical depression within the next 24 to 36 hours.

"Itong bagyo... ay inaasahang hihina. Maaari po maging tropial depression or maging low pressure area sa kalupaan," PAGASA weather forecaster Aldczar Aurelio said.

Tropical storm Bavi is packing maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour (kph) along the center and gustiness of up to 80 kph.

It is forecasted to make landfall over Aurora province by Friday. The provinces of Camarines, Quezon and Aurora may experience light to moderate rains by Saturday.

But Abunda called out Paulo for not answering the question, adding he first admitted courting KC in a episode of “The Buzz” in 2013.

“Nagkaroon ba kayo ng relationship ni KC Concepcion, yes or no,” asked “The Buzz” co-host Kris Aquino.

To this, Paulo simple answered: “Yes.”

The actor didn’t elaborate when he and KC broke up.

This comes just days after Paulo shrugged off reports that he has already broken up with KC, even though the two never admitted they were in a relationship.

Mohammad Ali Tambako, who hails from Barangay Libutan in Mamasapano, Maguindanao, was nabbed exactly three months after he launched a more radical BIFF faction called the Justice for Islamic Movement.

JIM members claimed that they took part in the killing of 44 police Special Action Force (SAF) commandos in Mamasapano last Jan. 25.

The military and police also tagged Tambako and his group as among those who brutally killed the SAF troopers in Mamasapano.

The JIM group has also been reported, aside from the BIFF, to be coddling bomb-maker Basit Usman and five other foreign terrorists.

The JIM, which is more known to local officials in Maguindanao as the Saifulllah that some of them interpret as “sword of God,” aims to establish an ethnically pure Moro state in the south, under an Islamic Sharia justice system, with absolute separation from the kuffar or non-Muslims.

Daniel Aliermo, Vice Ganda impersonator wins “Kalokalike: Face 3” on “It’s Showtime”

The 31-year-old impersonator of Vice Ganda bested 14 other grand finalists of the noontime show’s hit celebrity look-alike competition. He impressed the judges and studio audience with a song and dance performance which was highlighted with an aerial stunt.
Daniel Aliermo won himself P300, 000 and a “special artista package” as the grand champion of “Kalokalike: Face 3.”

Melody Hodgson as Katy Perry from Cebu was declared as second place taking home P200, 000, while Jay Magno as Bruce Lee of Camarines Norte in the third place who won P100, 000.

Aside from the grand winners, special awards worth P20, 000 were also given to Rex Due as Cesar Montano for “Picture Frame Award,” and Mark Magno aka Gloc9 for “Kumarir Award.” Another special award went to Daniel Aliermo for “Trending Award.”

Professional model Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach finally bagged the crown as the winner of Binibining Pilipinas 2015. She was crowned as the Bb. Pilipinas-Universe 2015 during the grand coronation night held at the Araneta Coliseum on Sunday, March 15, 2015.
