Senator Bam Aquino: ‘They have traveled several times to South Korea using the same documents they presented in the past without any hitch. Suddenly, they were barred from leaving without any valid reason.’

Senator Benigno Aquino IV has asked the Bureau of Immigration (BI) and the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) to explain why they kept 3 members of Team Rave – an e-sports team – from leaving for South Korea to train and join international competitions.

Team Rave's Mark "Cast" Pilar, Djardel "Chrissy" Mampusti, and Ryo "ryOyr" Hasegawa were barred from flying to Seoul due to an alleged lack of proper travel documents.

Aquino, however, pointed out that the reason given by the immigration and overseas employment agencies were unusual.

"They have traveled several times to South Korea using the same documents they presented in the past without any hitch. Suddenly, they were barred from leaving without any valid reason," he said in a statement Monday, April 6.

"Worse, the offloading happened during a crucial time where they were scheduled to train for several big international competitions," the senator said.

According to Aquino, the offloading of Team Rave also kept them from additional chances to join further tournaments in Bucharest.

Team Rave was earlier in the news for earning 6th place in the DOTA 2 Asian Championships, taking home $150,000 for their hard work.

Senator Aquino remined the agencies of government's role in fostering athletes: "Government should be able to provide an environment where our athletes, online or offline, will be able to hone their skills, compete in world class competitions, and give honor and pride to our country."

Aquino, whose office had helped Team Rave in the past, added: "We will continue helping them in any way we can because we believe in their potential in bringing honor to our country."

Mich Liggayu, other half of popular duo JAMICH is still keeping her silence regarding her rumored relationship with Neo Domingo despite the demands of her supporters not to remain silent regarding the issue.

Mich Liggayu received negative reactions from the netizens that are waiting for her soon to be released statement because one of the Facebook users has uploaded a video of herself singing with a friend inside the hospital room of the late Jam Sebastian, her boyfriend of seven years.

When you watch the video, you will notice that Jam’s mother, Maricar Fernando Sebastian was instructing Mich and her friends to stop singing, but unfortunately, they just ignored Maricar. Just hours after it circulated on social media, Today In Manila immediately defended Mich Liggayu.

According to the website, said incident happened because Mich and her friends were allegedly instructed by Jam himself who was fighting for his life to do it. Today In Manila added that said video was edited and it was uploaded on YouTube and Facebook just to ruin the credibility of Mich Liggayu.

To protect not only her image but her family as well, Philippine Entertainment Portal or PEP contacted the YouTube sensation who reportedly wanted to pursue her showbiz career, but despite the Portal’s efforts to get her side of the story, Jam Sebastian’s former girlfriend refused to comment on the issue. Mich only said she had already laid all the issues and intrigues that continue to make waves online to the lord.

On the other hand, Maricar Sebastian who is still grieving for the lost of her son is also not giving her statement regarding the issue, but like what she said during her interview in StarTalk, she will release it in due time.

Emgoldex banned in US, 4 other countries.

MANILA - People who illegally sell securities or financial products without registration in the Philippines face a P5-million fine and a 21-year prison term, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) warned Tuesday.

This, amid the furor regarding the Emgoldex pyramiding scheme that promises to make anyone rich.

Emgoldex recruiters claim that an investment of P1,000 will yield P5,000 to P10,000, while an investment of P35,000 can turn into P180,000 to P360,000.

Investors are also urged to recruit at least two more people into the scheme.

The SEC said this is clearly a pyramiding scheme that can collapse at any time.

Emgoldex is also not a registered corporation or partnership in the Philippines, and is not legally allowed to collect investments from the public.

"Ito po sa pyramiding kung susuriin investment style, nire-require mag-recruit tapos may bonus," said SEC spokesman Atty. Gerard Lukban. "Kung sa pag-recruit ang payout kinukuha sa baba pag nag-collapse mawawalan ng kita."

Lukban said the law requires any business to register in the Philippines if it will operate here.

"Kaya po natin pinare-rehistro ang mga kumpanya para makita natin, unang una, sino mga tao behind them," he explained. "Kung hindi po natin makita sa database, medyo mahihirapan po tayong habulin."

The National Bureau of Investigation, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, and the Department of Trade and Industry are also investigating Emgoldex's pyramid scheme.

A cease and desist order had been imposed on Emgoldex in Massachusetts, US, and it has been banned in Finland, Colombia, Estonia, and Panama.

People who try to recruit "investors" in Emgoldex claim that the company is registered in Europe, but a complaint filed by Massachusetts Secretary of State William F. Galvin showed that it is registered in the Seychelles, an island nation off Africa.

ABS-CBN News called Emgoldex's alleged administrative office in the Seychelles to get its side but no one wanted to talk.

Emails sent to addresses on its website have also yet to get replies.

In the last 20 years, people have lost more than P80 billion to investment scams in the country.

These scams include Bancap in 1994 (P900 million); Multitel (P25 billion) and Mateo Management Group in 2002 (P4.3 billion); Tibayan Group in 2003 (P2 billion); Francswiss (P1 billion); Performance Investment Products Corp ($250 million) in 2007; and Legacy Group (P30 billion) and Royal Manchester Five Trading Corp. (P2 billion) in 2008; and Aman Futures Group in 2012 (P12 billion). Source @abs-cbnnews.com

Talk about video games and people would definitely mention “Tekken”. Talk about Filipino heroes and people would definitely say “Jose Rizal”. Now, let’s combine Tekken and Filipino heroes… What do you get? Tekken 7’s newest character: “Josie Rizal”. As if it couldn’t get much worse, the character actually weeps when she wins a game, typical Filipina, eh?

But, maybe, the explanation as to why she was name Josie would be enough for Filipinos. Mark “Markman” Julio, Global Community and Sponsorship Manager of Mad Catz Interactive was consulted for the new Tekken 7 character (Mad Catz is a global provider of innovative interactive entertainment products). Julio actually has Filipino roots and offered advice to Tekken project head Katsuhiro Harada. Julio talked to Harada about the Filipino culture and mentioned many character traits of Filipinos that shaped Josie’s traits, including her name. (That’s why she has tears of joy after she gets victory). She has brown skin too. She also resembles one of the almost nakedly clad dancers on noontime TV (Think: Sexbomb). Except for her short hair, she wears a gold top and a blue mini skirt, and sandals that are like of a goddess to complete her outfit.

But Josie isn’t just a typical Filipino heroine, she actually uses a combination of Kickboxing and Eskrima in her fighting skills. She looks really tough and says, “Got this!” before her game starts, which is a typical Filipino trait as well. This actually means “Ako ang bahala” in Filipino.

While some gamers are excited about this development, this could easily be an insult to Filipinos. But what do you think about this mini-skirt clad, brown-skinned, and crying “tears of joy” character in Tekken 7? Don’t you think it’s an insult to Filipinos? But, before you judge, watch the video of Tekken 7’s newest characters which includes, none other than our very own, Josie Rizal.

You're still arguing about who loads the dishwasher the right way. Sharing your home with someone else is bound to lead to differences and frustrations. But if you're bitching about the same thing repeatedly you know, about how he can't (for the life of him!) turn the cookie sheet the right way in the damn dishwasher you might need to find a better way to express yourself. "Often when a couple has an argument that never gets resolved, they aren't talking to each other in the right way," says Walfish. "They're screaming, yelling and attacking, and then going silent because they don't feel heard." By going to a therapist, Walfish says you can finally figure out how to illustrate your feelings in a way that your partner can understand so instead of screaming and slamming the baking sheet into the "correct" position, which can make him shut down, you'll learn that saying something like, "Sweetie, you may not think it's a big deal, but loading the cookie sheet this way isn't getting it fully clean, and that bugs me." Then you can talk about why it could mean you're concerned about the water bill going up so you can run the dishwasher twice, and that's not exactly cost effective. Either way, "a therapist can take the couple through the conflict in slow motion and not allow them to sweep issues under the rug," says Walfish. "Hashing through the details, however long that takes, is the only way to put the problem behind you."

You would rather watch Scandal than have sex. When those steamy sex scenes between Fitz and Olivia pop up (or Olivia and Jake—we're equal opportunity lovers for this show), admit it: You're turned on. But when your man makes a move, it's dryer than the Sahara desert downstairs. That's a problem. Or maybe it's not quite so intense—perhaps there's a rare moment in between PTA meetings and filing your taxes when you do get hot and heavy…but you're not quite as into it as you used to be. Regardless of which it is, it's time to figure out why you aren't connecting romantically." If there's been a long term decline in physical affection and sex, there is usually a root cause to the pattern, and sorry, it's rare that you're just tired all the time," says sex and marriage therapist Dr. Kat Van Kirk. It can be helpful to have someone who isn't in your bedroom help you understand what's actually going on (or, um, not going on) between the sheets. When the two of you have a difficult time connecting in a way that was once an easy and essential part of your relationship, there are other underlying issues happening. So if you're self conscious about your post baby bod, it could mean that there's an emotional need that isn't being met within the relationship. Or if he's stopped his muscle sculpting morning runs that sent you into a sex crazed frenzy, perhaps he doesn't feel wanted by you in the first place, creating a viscous, intimacy deprived cycle. Whatever it is, a therapist can help you figure out how to get that va va voom back into your love life. "Some people have a hard time talking about sex and may need the help to bring up topics like erectile dysfunction or negative body image," says Megan Bearce, relationship expert and author of Super Commuting Couples. "A therapist will help you speak and connect the dots to your intimacy issues." Because unless you figure out a way to understand and express what you need, you'll never bring sexy back.

You're nicer to your work frenemy than you are to your partner. If it's easier to have small talk with the girl who's always stealing your business ideas than it is with the man you share a life with, you may need to figure out why you're icing your partner out. Sex therapist Vanessa Marin says that when you notice yourself retreating into personal affairs instead of making an effort to share experiences with your husband, you're ignoring bigger issues. You may not even realize you're doing it, so consider this situation: Your day started with a manic drive to your kid's school, where for the 100th time, you forgot to send in the form that's due. Then at work, you never felt like you had enough coffee or that you were nailing it with clients like you used to. Even worse, it was your husband's turn to pick up the kids, but he's stuck in a meeting so you have to leave early to get them. And, well, grocery shopping was a nice thought, but you gave in to take out again. You're not only worried about the nutritional value, but about your job, your aging skin, your… everything. Once your husband's home, do you talk to him about this stress and work together to figure out how to lessen your load? Or do you give him a side eye, take a shower, and get into bed to read a book or surf Pinterest? If you often choose the latter, you're making an effort to not connect, whether it's conscious or not. Marin says this can likely lead to your attention being directed to something or someone else. Instead of dealing with what's really making you upset feeling overwhelmed, unhappy with your day to day and fighting an urge to make a big change you're keeping it inside and letting the pattern continue, which could make you think you'll feel comforted by another man's attention. If you find yourself being swayed, Bearce says to dial your therapist so you can drill down to the real issue so you'll stop—unintentionally or not—inflicting more damage, and save a lot of heartache for everyone involved.

You hang out in separate rooms at home. When you share a house, co-existing in every room can grind your gears. So yeah, it's totally fine to need some alone time. But if you've actively started avoiding being in the same room with him during downtime like after dinner when the kids have been tucked into bed, you beeline for the bedroom as he settles in front of the TV ask yourself why. While doing your own thing can seem normal at first, not having relaxation time together prevents you from connecting in a way that keeps marriages together, says Bearce. "One or both partners can start to feel neglected, resentful or lonely." If this is you, couples therapy can be a time when, "if nothing else, you have a weekly appointment to be together, uninterrupted, to talk about tough stuff and re-evaluate the relationship and the goals each of you have for going forward. It's a way to get back on track." Once you are, it may not feel so tough to sit through a football game once a week (remember how much you watched when you dated?), and he'll swap in time to watch a few of your favorite shows.

You think everyone has a better husband and you aren't afraid to say it. If you married this man, that means you were madly in love at some point, right? (We hope so.) So putting him down in front of other people not only makes him feel bad after all, nobody forced you to put a ring on it—but it doesn't reflect kindly on you. "Complimenting other men and ignoring your husband is a form of passive-aggressive shame and criticism," says Bearce, and Dr. Kat says it can lead to a slippery slope of destruction. "Talking down or ignoring their needs is dangerous and can really make your partner's self esteem plummet," she says. So while you think you're just complimenting your BFF on her awesome partnership, there's more to be discussed in therapy safely. "When situations like this occur in public, it's usually because you haven't expressed anger or resentment that you have over something he did or didn't do," says Van Kirk. "Talking about it with therapists gives automatic ground rules for behavior, and helps everyone articulate how damaging those actions can be." Productive criticism is healthy for a marriage and can help make big changes, but a therapist can teach you how to appropriately communicate without being cruel.

Based on the Department of Health (DOH)’s Philippine HIV and AIDS Registry’s January 2015 report, 91 individuals recently acquired HIV after engaging in “transactional sex.”

The report indicated that 50 individuals or 55 percent of the new cases paid for sex, while 33 individuals or 36 percent accepted payment for sex. The remaining eight individuals or nine percent engaged in both.

Of the total number, 83 people or 91 percent of the cases were males and eight were females.

Since DOH began the official evaluation of people who engaged in transactional sex in 2012 up to present, there have been 1,701 recorded cases of HIV. About 55 percent acquired HIV after engaging in paid sex, while 30 percent accepted payment for sex. The remaining 15 percent both paid and accepted payment for sex.

A total of 1,617 or 95 percent of HIV cases among people who engage in transactional sex are males, while the remaining are females.

The United Nations Program on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) attributed low condom use as one of the main reasons for the “fast and furious” rise of HIV cases in the country.

For this reason, people living with HIV (PLHIV) renewed calls for the immediate adoption of sex education in schools to help combat the spread of HIV through safe sexual practices. It is only through proper sex education that people learn how to practice safe sex and avoid acquiring HIV.

“What we have to do is to educate people properly. It has to start earlier. When it comes to health, education is very shallow. We don’t talk about consequences of sex in schools,” PLHIV advocate and writer Wanggo Gallaga said.

Boxing hero Manny Pacquiao, who faces his biggest fight against unbeaten American Floyd Mayweather, already holds top spot as the number one taxpayer in the Philippines, government records showed Saturday.

A list of top individual tax-payers for 2013, posted on the Bureau of Internal Revenue website, put the boxer-turned-congressman at number one with 163.84 million pesos ($3.72 million) in taxes paid.

This was about 64 percent higher than the second-highest taxpayer.

Internal revenue chief Kim Henares confirmed that Pacquiao topped the list but stressed that he still had a case pending over alleged non-payment of taxes earlier.

Although hailed as a national hero for his boxing feats, Pacquiao has run afoul of tax officials before and is embroiled in a dispute with the revenue bureau saying he owed at least 2.2 billion pesos in unpaid taxes for 2008 and 2009.

"It (the case) is still ongoing. No, he has not settled. Being a top tax-payer... does not mean he paid the correct taxes. The two (issues) are not synonymous," Henares said in a statement to AFP.

The boxer has previously insisted he paid the 2008 and 2009 taxes in the United States, so did not need to do so in the Philippines because the two countries have an agreement allowing their citizens to avoid double taxation.

The tax office alleges Pacquiao failed to provide documents proving his US payments and that he may still owe some money in the Philippines where there is a higher rate of taxation.

Pacquiao, 36, a champion in eight divisions, has parlayed his sports fame into a fortune in commercial endorsements, a showbiz career and even election to Congress.

This earned him a spot in Forbes magazine's list as the 11th highest-paid athlete in 2014, although still behind his rival Mayweather who was number one on the list that year.

The two rivals for the crown of best boxer of their generation are due to meet in Las Vegas on May 2 in a match that is expected to shatter box office records.

Record-shattering revenue totals for Manny Pacquiao’s upcoming boxing showdown with unbeaten Floyd Mayweather could surpass $400 million, promoter Bob Arum told ESPN in a report Monday on the sports network’s website.

The welterweight title unification fight May 2 in Las Vegas will generate $74 million from just over 15,000 tickets at MGM Grand Garden Arena, Pacquiao promoter Arum told ESPN, flattening the old mark of just over $20 million for Mayweather’s 2013 fight with Saul “Canelo” Alvarez in the same venue.

Promoters first aimed for $40 million, then boosted the ticket prices from $1,000 to $1,500 at the low end and $5,000 to $7,500 for the best seats due to huge demand for the ducats, Arum said.

But organizers have now shuffled the number of seats in various price ranges and boosted top seats to $10,000 to raise the live gate total from $50 million to $74 million.

“It’s crazy, but it is what it is,” Arum told ESPN. “It’s amazing.”

And few if any seats will be available for public sale, with promoters, telecasters HBO and Showtime, the fighters and the host venue each taking a share of the tickets.

“We’ll probably have a handful of tickets that will go on sale to the public next week,” Arum said. “It’s mania.”

There will be only about 1,100 seats at $10,000, none of them for public sale, according to the report.

Boxing’s record for pay-per-view purchases is the 2.4 million buys from Mayweather’s 2007 split-decision victory over Oscar de la Hoya, but with Mayweather-Pacquiao having taken more than five years to come together with the planet’s top pound-for-pound fighters, expectations of 3 million pay-per-view buys at about $100 each could bring $300 million in sales for US, Puerto Rican and Canadian markets alone.

“We wouldn’t have gotten a fraction of these numbers if we made the fight five years ago,” Arum said. “It turned out that we’re doing the fight at the right time, I guess, not that we’re geniuses for waiting this long.”

Global rights are expected to ring up another $35 million, with a record $10 million already spent for rights in the Philippines, where Pacquiao is a Congressman as well as an iconic figure.

“Between the gate, the foreign television sales and the closed circuit, which we can’t even calculate yet, you’re looking at over $120 million. And that’s before one pay-per-view has been sold in the US,” Arum told ESPN.

Arum said Tecate beer, a long-time Pacquiao sponsor, won title sponsor rights with a $5.6 million bid, $400,000 more than rival Corona, a long-time backer of Mayweather.

“We’ve never see anything like that on a beer sponsor,” Arum said. “Both companies were after it. It’s a huge number.”

Mayweather’s camp receives 60 percent of the revenue with Pacquiao’s side taking home 40 percent.

Arum said the contract gives Pacquiao the choice of who sings his homeland’s national anthem before the bout while Mayweather decides who will sing “The Star Spangled Banner.”

1. Patis
You’re wrong if you assumed that patis or fish sauce has been here in the Philippines since the Spanish era. As a matter of fact, this popular salty partner of many popular Filipino dishes was only discovered after the Japanese occupation in the 1940’s. Ruperta David, also known in history as Aling Tentay was responsible for its accidental discovery. According to Philippine Daily Inquirer, the family of Aling Tentay started a dried fish business after the war. One day, Aling Tentay stored in jars some salted fish that turned into fragments even before they dried. While in jars, the fish fragments turned into a liquid substance that tasted like our Patis today. Thus the beginning of the thriving Patis business of Aling Tentay, which was officially registered in 1949 and is known today as Tentay Food and Sauces Inc.

2. Erythromycin
This well-known medicine is an antibiotic derived from the bacterium Streptomyces erythreus. Not known by many, the Ilonggo doctor/scientist Abelardo Aguilar is the one who discovered the said strain in 1949 using the soil in his home province. Unfortunately, when he sent it to his U.S employer in Eli Lilli Co. to separate the strain, the Indiana-based company owned the drug and didn’t give Aguilar any credit for his outstanding discovery.

3. Medical Incubator
Fe del Mundo, the first Asian to have entered the prestigious Harvard University’s School of Medicine, is also credited for her studies that led to the invention of incubator and jaundice relieving device. According to wikipilipinas.org, the improvised incubator was made up of two native laundry baskets of different sizes placed one inside the other. Hot water bottles were placed all around between them to provide warmth. There was also a makeshift hood over the overlapping baskets to allow oxygen to circulate within. It was created to address the needs of rural areas with no electricity that is needed to regulate newborn babies’ body temperature.

4. Jeepney
After Americans left our country, Filipinos succeeded to make an authentic “jeepney” from scratch. Since then, the popular Philippine vehicle has faced a lot of innovative transformations until the modern “E-Jeepney” was finally introduced in Metro Manila and Bacolod City. Unlike the standard jeepney we have been accustomed to, this modern means of transportation offers three advantages: it is nature-friendly because E-Jeepneys are noiseless and smokeless, it uses electricity so use of expensive diesel will gradually decrease, and jeepney drivers will take home more profits as the electricity is significantly cheaper than the ordinary diesel.

5. Yoyo
We all know “yoyo” as that rounded and stringed toy that kids play nowadays. But unbeknownst to many, the original “yoyo” was far from what it is today, in terms of both appearance and purpose. Used by the natives 400 years ago as a combat weapon against Spaniards and intruders, the first “yoyo” was large and had sharp edges and studs. It was also attached to thick 20-feet long ropes for flinging at enemies or prey. The modern toy that we know today was the brainchild of law undergraduate Pedro Flores, whose idea was later brought to reality. Thanks to America, the toy was mass produced and became one of the most distinct toys the world has ever known.

6. Quink Ink
The Quink quick drying ink was invented by Francisco Quisumbing, a chemist. It was an innovative ink at that time and was further developed to work with Parker Pens. Aside from being quick drying, it was also water-resistant, did not clog the pen opening, does not blot and will not fade. It is considered as one if the best selling ink for fountain pens of the millennium.

7. Mole Remover
Rolando dela Cruz developed in the year 2000 an ingenuous formula that could easily remove deeply grown moles or warts from the skin without leaving marks or hurting the patient. His formula was extracted from cashew nut (Annacardium occidentale), which is common in the Philippines. The formula won for dela Cruz a gold medal in International Invention, Innovation, Industrial Design and Technology Exhibition in Kuala Lumpur in September 2000.

8. Banana Catsup
Filipinos just love using banana catsup as a condiment for almost every known dish in the Philippines. This is not surprising at all because the popular variation of tomato catsup was another brainchild of a great Filipino food technologist, Maria Orosa y Ylagan (1893–1945). According to historical accounts, she created the first ever recipe for banana catsup and also experimented with foods native to the Philippines and formulated food products like calamansi nip, a desiccated and powdered form of calamansi that could be used to make calamansi juice, and a powdered preparation of soya-beans called Soyalac, a “magic food” preparation which helped save the lives of thousands of Filipinos, Americans, and other nationals who were held prisoner in different Japanese concentration camps during World War II.

9. 3-in-1 fire truck
Angelo B. Palmones, president of AGHAM or Alyansa ng mga Grupong Haligi ng Agham at Teknolohiya para sa Mamamayan, said two years ago that the Anos fire truck, named “Patriot,” may yet be the most reliable partner in fire-fighting because it is a three in-one package: a fire truck, a rescue vehicle, and ambulance. The “Patriot” was invented by Inventor Alfredo M. Anos, Sr., known as the godfather of Filipino inventors.“Its triple capability allows firefighters and emergency workers to simultaneously put out fire, rescue people and animals, and provide first aid treatment to the injured. The ambulance and rescue fire truck uses compressed air foam system that is five to seven times more efficient than plain water in putting out fire,” Palmones said during an interview with Manila Bulletin.

10. 16-Bit Microchip
According to Wikipilipinas.org, Diosdado Banatao developed the first single-chip graphical user interface accelerator that made computers work a lot faster. This invention has allowed computer users to use graphics for commands and not the usual typed commands in older computers. It has allowed data processing to be a little faster using very little space (small chips instead of large boards).

11. Anticancer Cream
Filipino inventor Rolando dela Cruz won the gold medal for his “DeBCC” anti-cancer cream at the prestigious International Inventor’s Forum in November of 2005. The “DeBCC” cream, developed from cashew nuts and other local herbs, was chosen over 1,500 entries as the “most significant invention” of the year. It is a treatment intended specifically for basal skin carcinoma (BSC), which is the most prevalent type of skin cancer worlwide.

12. Filipino-made Train
According to Atty. Antonio Oposa Jr., the founder of Law of Nature Foundation, a Filipino-made train that was launched in Cebu will not only solve traffic congestion but will also lessen the carbon emission since this mass transport system will be run using renewable energy. Invented by electronics engineer Bryan Yuson, the train was designed with three charging systems; the solar panel, wind mill, and the pedals. Yuson said that the energy from the three systems will be charged to the six batteries attached to the train and will power up the two 24 volts motor to run the train. The train is also flexible, if the Cebu government cannot have railways for trains, it can still run in the highways using the usual vehicle tires. According to ABS-CBN News-Central Visayas, Yuson firmly said that he will not sell his invention to foreigners. He said that the train will solely be made by Filipino hands and it will be the Filipinos who will benefit from it.

Toni Gonzaga apologized to those offended by her hosting during the Binibining Pilipinas 2015 pageant on Sunday, but explained she was asked to “make the show fun and light.”

The ABS-CBN star was criticized on social media following her stint as a co-host in the Bb. Pilipinas 2015 coronation night. A number of netizens considered her hosting style as too “informal” and her jokes inappropriate.

Among those who criticized the ABS-CBN star's hosting style on social media was former beauty queen Nina Ricci Alagao and fashion designer Cary Santiago.

But during the press conference for the upcoming Star Cinema movie “You’re The Boss” on Tuesday, Toni said she didn’t mean to offend anyone and that she was instructed to “ease the tension, especially during the question and answer portion” of the pageant.

“Syempre po, doon muna sa mga hindi natuwa dahil hindi naibigan ang napanood nila noong Sunday, I’m humbly asking if I have offended or I have maligned or I have hurt any one of you,” she said.

Toni added, “But it was never my intention because prior to the show, I was instructed to make the show fun, light, and ease the tension—especially during the Q & A portion. So it was never my intention.”

“Again, it was instructed for me to host that way, to make it lively and fun.”

She also thanked her fans and supporters who defended her over the issue.

"I don't want to miss this opportunity to thank everyone, yung mga friends ko po from the press, my friends from the industry who have been saying a lot of good things, who have been defending me, nagsasalita ng good and kind words sa akin. Maraming, maraming salamat po. I really and truly appreciate that from the bottom of my heart,” Toni said.

Despite the controversy, Toni said hosting the pageant was a memorable experience for her.

“I want to say thank you to the committee of the Binibining Pilipinas for giving me the opportunity to host such a wonderful event, kasi first time ko ma-experience yung ganung kasaya na crowd, ganung kasaya na audience,” she said.

7,107 Islands
The Philippines, a democratic country in Southeast Asia that declared its independence from Spain on June 12, 1898 but only obtained its full sovereignty on July 4, 1946, has a total land area covering 300,000 square kilometers (115,830 sq. miles) and distributed in 7,107 islands. According to the National Mapping and Resource Information Authority, 15,854,922 hectares or 53 percent of the country's total land area were forestlands while the remaining 14,145,078 hectares or 47 percent were alienable and disposable lands as of December 2000. The three major island groupings are Luzon (7 regions, 38 provinces), Visayas (3 regions, 16 provinces), and Mindanao (6 regions, 25 provinces).

World's 17th Largest Island
Luzon, with a total land area of 104,688 square kilometers is the world's 17th largest island (excluding continental masses of lands). Listed as the 19th largest island is Mindanao, with a land area of 94,631 square kilometers. The world's largest islands are Greenland (a Danish territory), with a total land area of 2.18 million square kilometers; New Guinea, 820,033 square kilometers; and Borneo, 743,107 square kilometers.

267,000 Square Kilometers of Coastal Waters
The coastal zones of the Philippines are composed of 11,000 square kilometers of land and 267,000 square kilometers of coastal waters.

41,960 Barangays
The National Statistical Coordination Board (NSCB) reported that as of December 2001, the Philippines had 16 regions, 79 provinces, 114 cities, 1,496 municipalities and 41,960 barangays or villages. The newest province was Zamboanga Sibugay in western Mindanao while the newest city was Gapan in Nueva Ecija province. The most populated province as this was being written remained Cebu, with over 3 million residents while the least populated was Batanes, with less than 20,000 inhabitants. The largest province in terms of land area was Palawan, with 14,896 square kilometers while the smallest province was Batanes, with 209 square kilometers.

According to the Liga ng mga Barangay, the Philippines now has 41,960 barangays or villages. Each barangay in a municipality represents at least 2,000 people while each barangay in a highly urbanized city represents a minimum of 5,000 residents.

Metro Manila, 0.2 Percent of Land Area
Metro Manila, a conglomerate of 12 cities and five municipalities, has a total land area of 636 square kilometers and a population of over 10 million people, excluding transients or passing individuals. In proportion to the country's land size, the metropolis covers only 0.2 percent of the total land area of the Philippines but is the site of more than half of the country's largest companies. In 1999, Metro Manila contributed 34.7 percent to the country's gross domestic product (GDP); Southern Tagalog, 13.9 percent; Central Luzon, 8 percent; and the rest of the country, 43.4 percent.

200 Volcanoes
There are 200 volcanoes in the Philippines, 22 of them are said to be active. The archipelago also sits on the Philippine fault zone, a 1,300-kilometer active left-lateral strike-fault from Luzon to Mindanao. This is why earthquakes occur in the country.

20 Typhoons Each Year
Situated between latitude 21°25'N and 4°23'N and longitude 116°E and 127°E, the Philippines is a tropical country with an average year-round temperature of 27°C (82°F). The Philippine time is Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) plus eight hours. According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), about 20 typhoons visit the Philippines between June and October each year. In 1993, the Philippines had 32 typhoons, the highest in many years.

500 Dialects
According to the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), there are 78 language groupings and over 500 dialects in the Philippines. While Filipino is regarded as the national language, it was mainly based on Tagalog (from the local phrase taga-ilog meaning residents near the river) language. The main language of instruction is English and the country's laws are also recorded in this language. Filipinos are said to be the world's second largest English-speaking people, after the Americans. This, of course, is subject to debate since only a few Filipinos actually talk in English on the street.
